About AWAB
African Writers Across Borders (AWAB) is a new initiative by Sprinng designed to connect African writers from diverse locations and encourage them to develop their creative ideas in collaborative spaces. The initiative is rooted in the belief that great writers do not need to grow in isolation.
Through AWAB, Sprinng will connect writers to engage and participate in innovative literary activities that strengthen community, expand visibility, and advance our mission.
Your Membership
Membership is free, and chapters will be formed once a minimum of 15 writers register interest from a shared location or region. African writers are across the globe, and AWAB will grow wherever African writers are building community.
To ensure consistency, accountability, and alignment with Sprinng’s values, Sprinng will appoint a Chapter President and Vice President for each chapter. Click here to learn more about chapter leadership!
We will be launching the first group of chapters soon, and you can register today to be notified when we create a chapter close to you!
The AWAB Experience:
Each chapter will be designed to include at least 15 writers in the same geographical region (city, state, or country), and members will commit to:
Meeting periodically via in-person or virtual events, monthly or quarterly, as the members decide.
Working on a collaborative project annually that aligns with at least one of Sprinng’s pillars - Education, Publishing, and Community Building.
For example, a chapter could decide to workshop each other’s writings and collate an anthology from pieces of their work. Another chapter could commit to reading and reviewing 6 books by African authors or to hosting open-mic events. The opportunities are endless!
AWAB Leadership
Each African Writers Across Borders (AWAB) chapter will be led by a President and Vice President, who work collaboratively to guide the members’ activities and uphold Sprinng’s mission and values. Chapter leaders will report periodically to Sprinng’s CEO and COO with updates on their project and their members.
Chapter leadership will be responsible for:
Supporting and coordinating chapter members for periodic meetings.
Selecting one annual collaborative project aligned with at least one of Sprinng’s pillars—Education, Publishing, or Community Building
Creating inclusive, engaging spaces that encourage participation, collaboration, and creative exchange.
Presenting their members’ outcomes at an end-of-year event.
While chapters are encouraged to shape programming that reflects their local context and interests, all activities remain aligned with AWAB’s purpose of spotlighting African writers and strengthening the literary community.
This leadership model balances local autonomy with a shared vision, empowering chapters to lead creatively while contributing to Sprinng’s mission, vision, and future. Chapter leaders will gain real-world experience in a creative space that helps them grow!
